GSIS resumes payment of EC survivorship benefit

State pension fund Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) today announced that it will start paying the suspended survivorship pension of qualified Employees’ Compensation (EC) pensioners and dependents, after the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC), resolved to lift the suspension of its payment beyond the five-year guaranteed period.

Enhanced Survivorship Benefit

GSIS removed the stringent provisions that have prevented many survivorship pensioners from enjoying pensioners from enjoying the survivorship benefit. Under the old survivorship policy, primary and secondary beneficiaries of GSIS members, except dependent children, may only be entitled to the survivorship pension if they have no gainful occupation or are not engaged in gainful business or economic activity.
