GSIS poised for ISO certification

Loans processing recommended for ISO 9001:2008

State pension fund Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) will soon receive the coveted International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008 certification for its quality management system (QMS) on loans processing following the recommendation of the TÜV Rheinland Philippines Inc. (TRPI).

TRPI, one of the leading third-party ISO certifying bodies in the country, audited the pension funds’ QMS for loans processing in November to determine its compliance to ISO standards.

GSIS’s QMS is a system of activities to plan, control, measure, and improve quality in the organization. It covers the application process up to the crediting of proceeds to the eCard or unified multipurpose identification card (UMID) of members or pensioners.

President and General Manager Robert G. Vergara said loans assist GSIS members and pensioners during various contingencies, so they should be processed and granted in an efficient manner.

“Adopting a QMS is a measure to improve our systems and procedures, and earning an ISO certification will assure that we provide world-class service to our member-borrowers,” he said.

Vergara added that before GSIS presented itself to TRPI, the GSIS Management and NCR personnel devoted hours of preparatory work including trainings and internal audits, to ensure that loan policies and processes are aligned with ISO standards.

“This is certainly a milestone in the history of GSIS. We are extremely proud of our team and their efforts to attain the ISO 9001:2008 certification.”

Once certified, GSIS will join other government offices that were conferred the ISO seal, such as the Civil Service Commission, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Department of Public Works and Highways.
