GSIS brings services closer to members

Cagayan de Oro- “The new GSIS is more consultative, transparent and service-focused.”
This was the message of Robert G. Vergara, President and General Manager of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), during the stakeholders’ dialogue held Wednesday at the Mallberry Suites Business Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City.
Vergara and Daniel “Bitay” Lacson Jr., chairman of GSIS, visited the city to inform its members and pensioners on the initiatives implemented by the current Board and Management to provide responsive service to its stakeholders and bring this closer to them.
Vergara said these initiatives include: increasing access of members and pensioners through its partnership with the Land Bank of the Philippines as additional service bank and deployment of an additional 500 GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System (GWAPS) kiosks across the country; cancellation of the Annual Renewal of Active Status (ARAS) for pensioners for their greater convenience; revised survivorship policy which now allows survivors to receive their pension even if they are receiving income or pension from other institutions; adoption of the Choice of Loans Amortization Schedule for Pensioners (CLASP) which gives retirees the freedom to choose the settlement mode for their loan obligations; and continued cleansing of members’ records to reduce the massive volume of inaccurate statements.
The state pension fund chief admitted “we have more to do, but we vow we will not stop until the last policy is changed, the last process is improved and the last system is revised.”
He added that in the next six months, the new GSIS leadership will design a new insurance policy with bigger savings, review the Premium-Based Policy which works under the principle of “what you pay is what you get”, review the educational and funeral pre-need plans, establish a 50-seater and 24/7 call center by December and adopt a one-stop shop set-up in all field offices.
The Cagayan de Oro dialogue is the last stop of Lacson and Vergara in Mindanao, having held earlier dialogues in the cities of Davao and General Santos.
GSIS holds at least one dialogue every month nationwide with its stakeholders because “we cannot formulate policies in isolation.”
We need to listen and hear the concerns of our members because their comments will serve as valuable inputs in our continuing review of our policies and benefit programs,” Vergara said.
