The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has earmarked over Php827.5 million in emergency loan for active members and old-age pensioners in four towns in Ifugao, five areas in the Caraga Region, and two areas in Northern Mindanao that were recently declared under a state of calamity.
GSIS has opened the emergency loan after typhoons Karen and Lawin wrought damages in the municipalities of Lagawe, Hingyon, Tinoc, and Asipulo in Ifugao. A total of 2,168 active members and 271 old-age pensioners in these areas may apply for the loan up to March 5.
The deadline for loan application in the seven Mindanao areas that were affected by heavy rains and floods last month is March 9.
Benefiting from the loan facility in the Caraga Region are 8,254 active members and 952 old-age pensioners in the entire province of Agusan del Sur, as well as in Butuan City and municipalities of Las Nieves, Remedios T. Romualdez, and Jabonga in Agusan del Norte.
In Northern Mindanao, 3,269 active members and 402 old-age pensioners in Plaridel, Misamis Occidental and Valencia City, Bukidnon may apply for the loan.
Active members are qualified to apply for the loan if they are residing or working in the calamity-declared areas, not on leave of absence without pay, have no arrears in paying premium contributions, and have no unpaid loans for more than six months.
Those applying for the first time may avail of a Php20,000 loan, while those with existing emergency loan may borrow up to Php40,000, from which their outstanding balance will be deducted.
Active members may apply through the GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System (GWAPS) kiosk located in all GSIS branch and extension offices; provincial capitols; city halls; selected municipal offices; large government agencies such as the Department of Education; Robinsons Malls; and selected SM City branches in North EDSA, Manila, Pampanga, Cebu, and SM Aura in Taguig.
Old-age pensioners must apply in person at any GSIS office to avail of the Php20,000 emergency loan. If they are also active members (after reentering government service), they may apply only once.
Emergency loan is payable in 36 equal monthly instalments at 6 percent interest rate per annum computed in advance. It is covered by a loan redemption insurance, which deems the loan fully paid in case of the borrower’s demise, provided that loan repayment is up to date.
Loan proceeds are electronically credited to the borrower’s GSIS electronic card (eCard) or unified multipurpose identification (UMID) card.
