GSIS extends calamity loan application to Nov. 4
The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has extended the deadline for application for the emergency loan up to November 4 to give its members affected by the recent typhoons more time to avail of the said loan.
Eligible members can apply for the P20,000-emergency loan using the GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System (G-W@PS) kiosks placed in all GSIS servicing offices and select government offices and SM malls in calamity-declared areas. The kiosks are available only during weekdays, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ninety-five percent or 200,232 emergency loan applications of the 209,658 applications the GSIS has received have already been granted as of 8 a.m. of Oct. 27, with the net proceeds amounting to P3.76 billion.
The GSIS started offering emergency loans to members working in calamity-declared areas due to Ondoy’s damage on Oct. 1. The GSIS has allotted a budget of P5 billion in emergency loans to Ondoy victims.
Areas devastated by Ondoy include the whole of National Capital Region, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, Tarlac, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur.
Affected members may apply for emergency loans using the kiosks installed in all GSIS offices, select government offices in the affected areas, and even in select SM malls including SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, SM Fairview, SM Marikina, SM Taytay, SM Marilao, SM Pampanga, SM Las Piñas, and SM Sta. Rosa. A kiosk was likewise placed in the office of the Philippine Information Agency in Visayas Avenue in Quezon City for this purpose.
In addition to the Ondoy victims, the pension fund has also announced that members affected by tropical storm “Pepeng” can apply for the emergency loan, such as those working in Ilocos Norte, Cagayan Valley, and Albay. The GSIS has earmarked a budget of P550 million for Pepeng victims.
For Ilocos Norte, eligible members can apply for the emergency loan in the GSIS Regional Office in Laoag; the provincial capitol of Bangui; and the city hall of Batac. For Cagayan Valley, eligible members can apply in the GSIS Regional Office in Tuguegarao; the municipal hall of Aparri; the provincial capitol of Apayao; and the Paseo Mall commercial center in Cagayan Valley. For Albay, eligible members can apply in the GSIS Regional Office in Naga; the municipal hall of Polangui; the city hall in Ligao; the municipal hall of Daraga; the city hall of Tabaco; and the provincial hall of Albay.
The emergency loan is available to eligible members working in government offices located in areas declared by the National Disaster Coordinating Council as under a state of calamity. The loan bears an interest rate of eight percent per year and payable in equal monthly installment for a term of three years.
Members have to bring their eCard Plus when applying thru the kiosks.
To qualify for the emergency loan, the member-applicant must be: a bona fide employee of the government office within the declared calamity area; be in active service and not on leave of absence without pay; has no pending criminal or administrative charges; has no arrearages in the payment of mandatory social insurance contributions; and has no loan that has been declared in default.
In addition, the agency of the member-applicant must not be suspended due to non-payment and non-remittance of premiums and loans. If the member-applicant still has an outstanding emergency loan, this will be deducted from the proceeds of the new loan.
