In the last quarter of 2013, GSIS offered a special assistance package for members living in areas adversely affected by the siege in Zamboanga and Lamitan, Basilan (September), the earthquake in Bohol and Cebu (October) as well as super typhoon Yolanda (November).
Enhanced Emergency Loan. The emergency loan credit limit was increased from Php20,000 to Php40,000, as part of additional assistance to members and pensioners, who are either living or working in the areas severely damaged by typhoon Yolanda. GSIS also waived the payment of 12 monthly amortization payment to renew the loan.
Loan Moratorium. In November 2013, GSIS offered a six-month loan moratorium for members and pensioners which deferred the payment for all their existing loans, until October 2014. Loans covered under the moratorium include consolidated loans, housing loans, policy loans, and eCash Advances.
Home Emergency Loan Program (HELP). Beginning in January 2014, a new loan window called the Home Emergency Loan Program or HELP was opened to members whose houses were damaged by Yolanda. At 6% interest rate, eligible members may borrow up to Php200,000 depending on their total length of service.
